Fuel for the Body
A healthy diet is vital for living an ideal quality of life. It is sad to see how many people take much better care of their cars than their own bodies. Just like a car runs best on premium fuel and needs a regular tune-ups, oil changes and alignments, the human body is the same way. If it doesn’t receive the proper fuel to energize and sustain it, it will eventually break down. The breakdown process for the body manifests itself as disease, fatigue and worn-down appearance. While there are many ways to feed the body for it to thrive, there are four specific food groups to focus on for now. Consider incorporating more of these foods and watch the body make changes for the better.
Vegetables are some of the most nutrient-rich foods on the planet. All the store-bought vitamins at the store are jam-packed with the nutrients that vegetables naturally contain. The green, leafy kinds like spinach and kale are filled with Vitamins A, C, K and others. They are great when they’re roasted, sautéed, or even blended into a delicious smoothie. Carrots and celery are excellent options for snacking between meals with a bit of hummus or salsa. Instead of grabbing chips as a snack or using pasta as a side dish at dinner time, consider adding some of these options to the menu and watch how the body positively responds.
Ripe fruits completely eliminate a person’s desire for sugar. Sugar is not healthy for the body anyway. Instead of grabbing that pint of ice cream, grab a few ripe bananas, freeze them overnight and then place them in a food processor with a little vanilla extract and cinnamon. This is the perfect rich, creamy and guilt-free dessert, because it is a fruit! Mangos, pineapples, strawberries, grapes, avocados, and oranges are all a part of the fruit family and eating more of these will naturally curb a person’s appetite for those sugar-laden, unhealthy options.
Lean proteins such as turkey and chicken are really great options to eat in a meal. A few of the most important things to consider here are factors like whether or not the meat is organic, grass-fed and cage free. If it is stuffed with tons of hormones, it can actually do more harm than good. Be sure to check the labels before purchase. After that, clean and season the meat thoroughly. The healthiest ways to enjoy lean protein is by baking, grilling or slow-cooking in the crock pot. Enjoy with a healthy portion of veggies and a small helping of brown rice for a healthy and filling meal.
The body is primarily made up of water, so this should go without saying. Water keeps the body well-hydrated and running at its peak. The hair, skin and nails are usually the last to receive moisture. If any of these parts are incredibly dry, use this as a cue to replenish.
